Check the home directory of that user: 
/home/.sites/143/site2/.users/58/[username]

In there you'll find a *.db file, which is the vacation database. In it 
information is stored about which email senders already received a vacation 
message recently. With that we avoid to send more than one vacation message 
per week back to each unique sender.

Most likely that database is either corrupted, or has the wrong permissions. 
So simply delete the database and let it be rebuilt from scratch next time the 
user gets a new email.
