That's a good question. I tried to replicate it on a 5108R and I get this:

Not Found
The requested URL /aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an 
ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache Server at 5108r1.smd.net Port 80

But yes: If it affects all sites on your server, then it must be something 
that's been done in your Apache configuration. Also check the directory 
/etc/httpd/conf.d/ for config files with aliases that could be related.
