No, I have never burned a dvd or cd on a server. DVD does come in handy
occasionally if what you are installing comes on dvd. Most distros have a
cd and then download everything else they need.

you will need the drive and caddy it goes in.

I have never used a cd from dell and I've bought dozens used and new dell
servers over the years.
