Looking at the dell site:
ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_poweredge
/poweredge-1850_User%27s%20Guide11_en-us.pdf on page 11 I see that the 2
NIC's, looking at the system from the rear with the power supplies to the
left, are on the right next to the two USB sockets. They are (from left to
right) NIC 2 and NIC 1.

If you have a NIC in the expansion slot above the two on-board NIC's it may
be a DRAC remote management card and should not be used. Do you have an
expansion card installed??? It might also be some other NIC that is snagging
the /dev/eth0 slot.

Did you check to see if the NIC's are enabled in the bios? Have you checked
the cables you are using to connect the server to the router with another
computer? Do the NIC LED's light up when plugged-in?

If you plug-in another computer to the cable for the server and all is good
(remember to turn any wireless off first) you probably have a bios or
hardware issue.

Hope this is helpful. I use Dell 1950 servers all the time and never ever
had problems like this on my local network.
