Look  a value of  "MaxClients"  in   /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf .

If  the value is less 100,  you might have to upgrade your machine,  at this 
case.

except more than a 100 connections at the same time? I did put in a higher 
user count but still when have a 100 users connected the server starts to 
put out 503 pages.
