Best way is to not do it - unless you're prepared to do a reinstall.

As was already pointed out: If it's a production server, then even if
all goes well you're looking at this: You need physical access to the
server, need half a day downtime, multiple reboots with and without a
rescue CD and all things considered the procedure would require fairly
solid Linux knowledge.

I wouldn't trust "a script that you can download somewhere" to do the
job. Maybe it works, maybe not. If it doesn't, you're in a world of pain
and most likely have to reinstall off the CD anyway.

So yeah, it *can* be done, but I wouldn't touch it with a pitchfork. :-)
