[BlueOnyx:19940] Re: New user question about spam

Ah, didn't get that "small" impression from my poking around the website -
the CP doesn't give that impression either, so hats off to "the two guys"
and the rest of the volunteers :)

RavenCore is my current CP, and it integrates spamassassin, clamav, postgrey
and squirrelmail if they are installed on the server (at time of
installation or later). As for keeping them up-to-date, they were all yum
installed packages, and were being maintained externally by their respective
developers, so running a cron script weekly was all that was required to
check for the latest version of the RPMs and virus defs (self coded, not
part of the CP, though simple enough).

So that's why I asked about it - I'd already seen/used it in one CP, and
thought if that guy had managed it, then it was probably the norm everywhere
else. Sorry to sound like I was complaining - just didn't realize it wasn't
the norm, I guess.

Thanks for the response - I'll keep poking at it and see where I end up.

BlueOnyx is maintained by a VERY small team. Really two guys with some other
people who help a little. SPAM-AV and Webmail both require frequent
maintenance and updates and there is simply not a large enough group of
volunteers to do it for free. The packages from Solarspeed and Compass are
really a great deal and well maintained and supported which is not often the
case for "free" software" and it is really one of the only ways they get
anything back for all the work they do.

That being said I am not aware of any comparable hosting control panel that
offers these types of things for free. I am not being flippant when I say if
there is then give those a try. You might find that BlueOnyx is better even
with the small cost for these add-ons.
