I seem to see the "unexpected EOF while looking for matching" error with
really large cmu files for user accounts.
The easy solution is to let the cmu complete and disregard the error.

Then either untar those files manually: tar xzvpf  userfile.tar.gz
Or, then rsync those user's files from the old server users account to the
new server.

The command is something like
rsync -rlptoDH  --delete  --progress  ~someusername/
 root\@some.oldserver.com:~someusername/
