Ok, thanks for that.
I did have another look around...... no other files missing and no access by
myself ( who is the only one with access to the box ) since before I went
away.
So I am stumped - but I will put it down to maybe an ftp delete or something
stupid like that ( which would have been me ) which would leave no
log/trace.

No, that's - with absolute certainity - not related to any update. I know
the
RPMs of the latest update inside out and they only replace files that the
original RPMs brought aboard in first place. Even then config files aren't
replaced if the existing config file has been modified. There are absolutely
no provisions in those RPMs to mess with any shell scripts in /home.
