Thanks for the help and the nudges - I have found a way to get a look at 
/var/log/messages and there are a few things taking quite a while.

The main problem is that this happens on boot, not just a cced.init 
restart - so no SSH or ps is possible.  It does eventually complete the 
process - although I originally thought the server was completely frozen - 
however it does takes about 20 minutes; not much disk activity during the 
cced stuff though.  20 mins for a reboot is a bit much, IMHO.

I'll keep digging through messages, looking for the things that take the 
time.

Your help is appreciated and any more thoughts would be most welcome.
